Birth and Death Certificates

Birth Certificates

We can provide certified copies of Missouri birth certificates for $15.00 each. The only form of payment accepted is cash. Birth certificates are available for Missouri births from 1920 to present. The average wait time to receive a birth certificate is 5-10 minutes. If you will be requesting vital records through the mail, please call our office for additional requirements.

Birth certificates will only be issued to:

  • the registrant,

  • relatives up to, but not including, cousins,

  • a legal guardian of a child,

  • a step-parent, or

  • another legally authorized individual as determined by Missouri Department of Health rules relating to access to vital records.

Please be prepared to provide a child's full name and date of birth, as well as the mother's full maiden name. You may also be asked to show a photo I.D. of yourself in order to receive a birth certificate.

Death Certificates

Effective August 28th, 2020, with the Governor’s recent signing of HB 2046, the fee collected for each death certificate will increase by $1.00 to $14.00 for the first certified copy. The fee for each additional certified copy, ordered at the same time for the same person, will also increase by $1.00 to $11.00. The only form of payment accepted is cash. We are unable to accept checks, debit cards, or credit cards at this time.  Death certificates are available for deaths occuring in Missouri from 1980 to the present.

Death certificates may be issued to relatives or to third parties with a legal need. Please be ready to provide the deceased person's full name and the date and city of death. If you are not a relative, you may also be asked to fill out additional paperwork in order to receive the death certificate.

Certificates for births, deaths, marriages, and divorces that took place outside of Missouri can be obtained by visiting the National Center for Health Statistics or VitalChek online. Fees and delivery times may vary by state and by document.
